Peoria Readies for Jewish Leadership Convention
With the eyes of the world focused on political conventions and rallies, Peoria will play host to a unique gathering of Jewish leaders from throughout Illinois. In what is likely to be the largest contingent of Rabbis and Rebbetzins ever to converge on Peoria, the Illinois Conference of Lubavitch Chabad Emissaries will take place on August 24th and 25th at the Peoria Embassy Suites Hotel and host some 40 Rabbinic families.
“The two day conference will focus on strategies for reaching more people with the vast array of programs and educational activities that the Chabad centers offer”, explains Rabbi Daniel Moscowitz, statewide director of Lubavitch Chabad of Illinois’ thirty-one centers. “Lubavitch Chabad is the largest Jewish organization in the world today with 4,000 centers in more than 50 countries. In addition to the International Conference of Emissaries held each year in New York, this statewide conference is an opportunity to plan for an exciting new year of initiatives” adds Rabbi Moscowitz.
“We are honored and flattered to be chosen to host this special event, it really is a first of its kind in Peoria,” said Rabbi Eli Langsam, director of Lubavitch Chabad of Peoria. Rabbi Langsam and his wife Sarah accepted the host responsibilities on top of their already hectic litany of activities. The Langsams operate a Hebrew School, a summer camp and dozens of classes and social activities.
The conference arrangements committee has been preparing for months including recruiting scholars from around the country and local presenters as well. City Councilman George Jacob will address the convention and Mr. Yona Lunken of Thinking Skills Inc, based in Peoria, will make a presentation as well.
From Gurnee to Champaign and from Hyde Park to Oak Park the Chabad families will be coming together for camaraderie, education and a little rest and rejuvenation and Peoria is proud to welcome them.
We wish to invite the Jewish Community for a BBQ to meet the Rabbis and their family’s on Monday August 25th 5:00pm at the "Chabad
House" 4820 N. Knoxville
