PEORIA — Members of the Jewish community gathered at the Lubavitch Chabad of Peoria to pray for soldiers fighting in Gaza.

Rabbi Eli Langsam said Israel Defense Forces, or IDF, are going through a tough time right now trying to defend their people.

He said he wants them to be successful in their mission.

He also wants them to know they are being remembered.

"It's important that Jews feel, from around the world, that other Jews, even though we're far away like Peoria, still have them in their prayers and thoughts," Langsam said.

Langsam said Tuesday also holds historical significance on the Jewish calendar.

He said in the year 425 B.C. the Jewish people faced war with the Babylonians.
